Can anyone shed some light on the origin of the redemption crucifix representation of Adam and Eve on either side of the cross? I have seen many crucifixes in my lifetime and have never come across the image of Adam and Eve at the foot of the cross, apparently holding up a chalice to catch the blood from the nail wounds to the hand. I am very curious to know where Sargent got the idea for this image.

As a person who has been asked all to often " what are you". Growing up in an all black family on both sides of my family, from the Carolinas- on both sides of my family. And if all of my uncles and aunts were very dark to almost white. We knew we were black. And in NYC other black folks would try to be gatekeepers of what black is and black wasn't. And yes there were some cousins that took on the gatekeeper role at times. But it never made shy away from being black because I knew who I was. Great topic. Bless.
